The Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea announced in the late afternoon of Wednesday, in Luanda, the unilateral closure of its Diplomatic Mission accredited in Angola.
The announcement was made by His Excellency Jo Pyong Chol, until then Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Angola, during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.
Ambassador Jo Pyong Chol went that afternoon to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Luanda, to say goodbye to the head of Angolan diplomacy, stating that by decision of his capital, Pyongyang, the Embassy of this Asian country in Angola is closed and that the diplomat returns to his country of origin.
Ambassador Téte António took note of the information and wished the North Korean Ambassador success in his professional future.
It should be noted that Ambassador Jo Pyong Chol served his country for five years in the Republic of Angola.
Relations between Angola and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea date back to Angola’s independence on 11 November 1975 and the two countries cooperate in the fields of health, construction and information technology.
