The MPLA on Thursday in Luanda pledged to do everything to reverse the country’s current social crisis, following the permanent loss of household purchasing power.

The information was given to the press by the secretary of the Political Bureau for Social Policy, Maricel Capama, at the end of the fourth meeting of the members of this body, chaired by the President of the MPLA, João Lourenço, at the Futungo II Complex.

Throughout the day yesterday, the members of the Political Bureau also evaluated, in depth, issues related to the quality of education, primary health care, job creation for youth and strengthening family farming.

The secretary of the Political Bureau for Social Policy told reporters that at the meeting, the members of the Political Bureau discussed the Memorandum on the socio-economic situation of the country, including the National Development Plan 2023-2027.

“We made a deep approach around social issues, especially related to the loss of purchasing power of families”, said Maricel Capama, for whom after evaluating the National Development Plan (PDN), already approved by the Council of Ministers, the members of the Political Bureau concluded that the priorities contained in it in the period 2023-2027 are in line with the electoral promises of the MPLA, voted in the last elections of 24 August 2022.

“There are conditions for the fulfillment of the electoral promises made in the last elections of August 24, 2022”, said the party leader, acknowledging that the country is experiencing a “difficult” economic and social situation, due to the international economic and financial crisis, caused, above all, by the Covid-19 pandemic and the conflicts that have been happening at the level of various regions of the globe.

The party leader stressed that although the country is engaged in a broad process of diversification of the economy, it still continues to depend on a single export product (oil). “There is a very strong commitment from the leader of the party and the Executive to do everything so that we can reverse the situation,” he said.

The secretary of the Political Bureau for Social Policy also said that in yesterday’s discussions, BP members defended a greater focus on family farming, as well as on the productive sector, as a way for the Angolan economy to stop depending on external factors.

In the chapter on internal party issues, the meeting approved the plan of activities developed by the BP Secretariat in the second four months of this year, and the events of the Central Committee of the MPLA for 2024.

Maricel Capama indicated that these matters should be evaluated at the next meeting of the Central Committee of the MPLA, to be held in the second half of November.
