Angola Embarks on a Social Security Expansion Project

In a collaborative effort to foster the formalization of the Angolan economy, the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS) of Angola, the European Union (EU), and the International Labor Organization (ILO) have unveiled a social security expansion project in Luanda. Aiming to enhance social security coverage in Angola, the project is closely tied to a suite of employment policies.

The project is structured around four strategic areas of activity, each designed to make a positive impact. The first concentrates on assisting the government in developing a strategy to broaden social security coverage by employing a participative approach and concrete data. The second area is committed to putting systems in place for the adoption and application of the extension strategy.

The third area focuses on bolstering the technical capacities of public institutions involved in policy formulation and implementation of social protection systems. The fourth area is dedicated to ensuring the active participation of workers, employers, and other stakeholders in capacity development interventions and social dialogue.
