Angola to Expand Cooperation With UN Peace Operations

On the eve of the meeting, the head of Angolan diplomacy met with the UN Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations, Jean Pierre Lacroix, with whom he analyzed his country’s contribution to the UN missions.

The African nation intends to increase its participation in these actions, said the foreign minister, for which both parties considered it necessary to work on four fundamental elements.

These are the preparation of an Angolan Special Forces Company, the preparation of a Helicopter Squadron, the training of Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) troops for their deployment in peace operations missions and the deployment of FAA officers at the UN headquarters, the note said.

The minister noted that the presence of FAA officers at the organization’s headquarters would serve to expose Angolan troops in a multilateral environment and stressed that this project would start with low-ranking military and police officers.
