The first Vice-Speaker of the Tanzania parliament, Mussa Azzan Zungu, on Thursday in Angolan capital, Luanda, deplored the successive coups d’état taking place in the African continent.
Speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with the president of the Monitoring Group of the Parliaments of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, the Tanzanian politician said coups d’état should not be allowed to take place any longer on the continent.
According to the Tanzanian parliamentarian, who participates in the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Luanda, the will of voters to freely choose their leaders must be respected.
The Tanzanian politician said the meeting served to talk about pacifying conflicts and strengthening the democratic process, along with other issues of concern.
The Angolan politician, on his turn, said he transmitted his country’s experience in supervising state activity, as well as discussed many other issues.
Angola and Tanzania co-operate bilaterally and within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), of which they are associate members.
The two states signed an agreement in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, setting up a Bilateral Commission to deal with the implementation of the commitments made by the parties throughout the countries’ shared history.
