Burundi: The Council of Ministers Adopts The Public Investment Program (PIP) 2023-2026

 

The Council of Ministers, adopted the Public Investment Program (PIP) 2023-2026 during its meeting on March 15, 2023, under the chairmanship of the Head of State, Evariste Ndayishimiye. The PIP is a set of projects and programs submitted by different ministries as milestones for the implementation of the National Development Plan.

The program presents the projects in progress for which financing is available or assured and those for which financing has yet to be mobilized. Thus, the program, analyzed and adopted by the Council of Ministers, counts «382 projects, including 129 projects in progress of execution, 151 projects in the planning, 66 projects with the new/approved status, and 36 projects with the project idea status ».

According to the figures of the program, published for the year 2023-2024, the available budgetary credits for investment are estimated at 1,265 billion BIF, an increase of 6.82% compared to the year 2022-2023.

Five priority projects have been selected by the Council of Ministers for 2023-2024, namely the construction of the Kajeke irrigation dam, a breeding and propagation center for rabbits, the development of the RUGOFARM agropole in Cibitoke, the rehabilitation of the Melchior Ndadaye international airport, and the automation of tax declaration and payment procedures and the deployment of 3,000 electronic invoicing cash registers.

With regard to health, the Council of Ministers has selected the construction and equipment of 37 communal hospitals as well as the construction of a cancer center.

For agriculture and livestock, the Council of Ministers plans the construction of 2 modern storage hangars; the development of two agro poles including livestock, and integrated mechanized agriculture, with an irrigation system. It has also planned to build breeding centers for pigs, poultry, and rabbits.

For energy and mining, the Council decided on the electrification of 36 centers, including 21 municipal capitals, and the construction of a carbonized peat processing plant.
