Festive coffee pop-up giving parents their caffeine boost for Christmas Day

A festively themed coffee pop-up is returning to the Oaklands Recreation Plaza for the second year running, donating invaluable funds to Down Syndrome SA. Hosted on Christmas Day, ‘Coffee For Charity’ is offering what parents really want (and need) on Christmas morning – caffeine.

For many parents, Christmas begins from the crack of dawn. Kids pop out of their beds like a jack-in-a-box and race to their parents’ bedroom doors, begging to start opening presents.

The rest of the morning is often a blur of ripped wrapping paper, sticky tape, and hunting for batteries for new toys. The parents, however, are just dreaming of a decent cup of coffee.

‘Coffee For Charity’, organised by Plympton-based brunch spot, Incognito Café, is for those who either don’t have an Nespresso machine, or simply think baristas “do it better”.

The owner of Incognito, Brett Dowsett, says he was inspired to host ‘Charity For Charity’ for the first time last year following the birth of his nephew.

“We began hosting ‘Coffee For Charity’ for the first time last year after my sister’s first born, Jaxon, was born with Down Syndrome. It really opened my eyes to the community that is active here in Adelaide, the support structures in place to help and the path that lay ahead for people with Down Syndrome,” says Brett.

“We chose to do it Christmas Day because it is impossible to find a decent coffee and what better day to promote giving and spending time with family. We typically celebrate with a lunch, so it allows me to do this event and still spend the day with my family and relatives.”

Brett and the Incognito team will be providing hot and cold bevvies from their coffee cart from 8am – 11am, giving passers-by that crucial caffeine hit before heading over to the Nana’s Christmas lunch and Aunty Sue’s Christmas dinner.

Coffee will be donated by Dawn Patrol coffee, tarts will be provided by Saudade Portuguese Tarts, and sweet treats will also be offered by some café locals.

This Christmas pit-stop will also be soundtracked by some cracking local musicians, just adding to the festivities.
